Down syndrome (DS) is a chromosomal disorder caused by an error in cell division that results in an extra 21st chromosome. Typically, the nucleus of each human cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, half of which are inherited from each parent. Down syndrome occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome. Down syndrome is the most common chromosome abnormality in humans

The Down Syndrome Advocates Group of Central Florida (DSAG), a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization, is a parent-initiated organization developed to provide information and support to families of individuals with Down syndrome and to raise awareness within the community about the abilities of individuals with DS and the benefits of their inclusion into society.

DSAG works to educate and link individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and professionals in multiple ways. Educating individuals and families about available resources and programs. Hosting conferences on information pertinent to Down syndrome. Organizing socials for individuals and families to network. Providing Down Comfort Gifts with information to new parents. Publishing our newsletter and providing other pertinent information and support.
